The Prosecution Service established the National Digital and Forensic Center in 2008 in a bid to fight increasingly sophisticated and intelligent crimes. It also diversified the scientific investigation system by integrating all scientific investigation divisions, increasing specialized staff, expanding facilities and introducing advanced investigation equipment.
The NDFC is making strenuous efforts to discover substantial truth with rapid and precise analysis on evidence from various sources, research on developing scientific investigation and analysis techniques as well as digital evidence collection and analysis techniques. Furthermore, it has built cooperative relations with 19 local and international agencies and institutes across the world and presented state-of-the-art analysis techniques to the international Association for Identification and International Association of Forensic Sciences. This is how we set international standards for scientific investigation as a global leader.

The Division enhances scientific investigation capabilities through research on scientific investigation and analysis techniques and advanced equipment. It also plays an important role to discover truth with document examination, image analysis, voice analysis, multimedia recover, fire investigation as well as psychophysiological test, behavioral analysis, statement analysis and clinical psychology evaluation on those involved in cases.
The Division expands its scope of work to analysis of food, medicine and hazardous chemicals through continuous R&D as well as drug analysis as part of forensic chemistry analysis. DNA analysis, DNA DB and forensic biology analysis also provide critical clue or evidence to solve violent crimes with superb identification power and accuracy of DNA, helping build a crime-free society.
The division supports computer and mobile forensic that collects, analyzes and recover evidence from digital storage devices like a PC, external hard drive and mobile device as well as database forensic that analyzes the system of companies or institutes. In particular, it strictly manages the entire process from evidence collection to its submission to the court with the nationwide digital investigation network and establishes the system that allows integrated search and analysis of digital evidence such as relations of major suspects and time series by developing Integrated Digital Evidence Analysis (IDEA v20.). This makes contribution to closing cases and scientific investigation.
The division tracks down cybercrimes through analysis of code, log and network, builds the policy to tackle cybercrimes and make proposals to improve related laws and systems. It helps the country fight cyber terrorism by preventing cybercrimes and tracking cyber criminals with cutting edge investigation infrastructure and cooperation network at home and abroad.
